WLOY Staff Picks 10.20.13

Nick_Drake_Pink_MoonKathleen McKeveny– “Pink Moon”- Nick Drake – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/pink-moon/id1286358?uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]

Because he made the whole sullen singer songwriter/turtle neck wearing/ sexy lanky guy thing work the first time around. Those songs are just the best of their kind, no matter how many wannabe Nick Drakes there are out there, he’s still nuuuuumero uno :0

Kait Connaughton– “Settle”- Disclosure – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/latch-feat.-sam-smith/id649157100?uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]
Disclosure has been on my radar since a close friend introduced me to their track “White Noise” in early 2013 and I haven’t been able to stop listening since. Disclosure’s May 2013 release of their first full length album, Settle, breaks barriers and brings some much needed fresh air to the electronic music scene. For some serious vibing, car jamming, and dance parties, take a listen to “Latch” and “Help Me Lose My Mind.” Matter fact, just listen to the whole album because it’s unreal.

bastille_2Kat O’Brien– “Bad Blood”- Bastille – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/pompeii/id672945248?uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]

If you haven’t picked up this album, you’re doing yourself a huge disservice. Not only are these three sisters really talented…they’re also just incredibly cool. I would suggest checking out “Don’t Save Me”, “The Wire”, and “Falling” to start.

Billy Dries– “Woman”- Rhye – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/open/id598779766?uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]
I really dropped the ball a couple months ago when this album came into WLOY and i deemed it good, added a couple songs to automation and put it away on the shelf, now after months of it sitting there untouched, I pulled it out and can’t stop listening. So I missed the tour, and maybe my only chance to see them, but this album is beautiful, and one that is not to be missed, so get out there and hear it already!
