On February 25th, in the year 2014, year of the horse, I had the pleasure of seeing Young the Giant. The Northern California band, Cayucas, opened for them, and they were pretty groovy. When Young the Giant and front man Sameer Gadhia took the stage, all bets were off at their sold out show. They opened with “Anagram,” their first full length track on their sophomore album, Mind Over Mind. They played a good combination of songs off both Mind Over Matter and Young The Giant which gave the crowd room to sing and dance along. If you’ve never been to a YTG concert and been able to experience Sameer on stage first hand, you’re truly missing a valuable life experience. He is electric on stage and so much fun to watch. You can see how much he enjoys their music, the way he bops around stage and engages the crowd. At one point, Sameer took the fedora of an audience member and danced around stage wearing it, followed by a performance with a cowbell. They also had an amazing light show happening synced with every song. After their “exit” from stage, the crowd burst into a “one more song” chant until they returned to the stage to play a few more. They ended their 3 song encore with their classic from their first album, “My Body.” It was the perfect song to end the night with, as the entire crowd sang along in musical harmony. If you have the chance to see them in the future, do not pass it up!
