As classes started up for the Loyola students on Tuesday, September 2, students, alumni and fans alike turned their attention to Ridley Athletic Complex for the start of a new soccer season. The Men’s team kicked off their season at home against Howard University.

The Greyhounds sported a bit of a new look on the sidelines for this game as new Head Coach, Steve Nichols, made his debut with the team.

Nichols watched his team start off the year strong with a goal in the 22nd minute from Senior Connor Thompson, bringing the Hounds to life for the 2014 season.

Of course, Mother Nature wanted to make her presence known and start off the season with a typical Baltimore welcome, namely thunderstorms with sheets of pouring rain.

The game went into a 2-hour rain delay. When play finally resumed, Loyola kept up the strong play and held on to win their home opener 1-0.

Coach Nichols was quoted as saying, “It was a long night with the delay, but it was worth it.”

The Hounds look to add on to their successful start to the season this Saturday, September 6, at Campbell University at 6 p.m. Keep it up, Hounds!
