On Sunday at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks met up for a regular season rematch of Super Bowl XLVIII, and they did not disappoint.
It was a heavily defensive battle late into the 4th quarter, when the Seahawks took a 20-12 lead with just under 1:00 left to play. In steps Peyton Manning to be…well, Peyton Manning.
Manning led an impressive drive down the field that capped off with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Tight End Jacob Tamme to bring the Broncos within 2 points of the Seahawks in hostile territory. Manning then showed the true ice in his veins, completing a pass to Demaryius Thomas for a 2-point conversion to tie the game at 20 with 18 seconds left to play.
The game went into overtime, where the Seahawks won the coin toss, giving them possession first in OT.
The Seahawks took that first possession straight down the field, finishing the game off with a Marshawn Lynch touchdown run, preventing Peyton Manning from having a chance to take the game away from them at home. The Seahawks won 26-20.
The Super Bowl rematch certainly didn’t disappoint, especially since it was a much better game than the actual Super Bowl. The game also seemed to serve as a huge moral victory for the Broncos, showing them that they can go into hostile territory in Seattle and play that game even until the coin toss went against them.
This should be a very interesting season, with both Super Bowl contenders from last year improving their game, and with other wild cards making themselves known and being thrown into the mix.
