Did you know that renowned American poet, Edgar Ellen Poe, was one of Baltimore’s most famous residents? If you enjoy Poe’s work, or simply want to venture into history, pay a visit to Edgar Allen Poe’s gravesite and memorial. But don’t forget to bring a penny! Tradition tells that school children started collecting pennies to buy the poet a more proper grave, and since the 1870’s, visitors have been leaving pennies at on the grave to carry on and remember this thoughtful tradition!
