This weekend in Denver, Peyton Manning made history by breaking Brett Favre’s all-time NFL career touchdown pass record of 508.
It seems an eternity since Manning threw his first career TD pass to Marvin Harrison back in 1998, but now in 2014 and in the heart of his 17th NFL season, Manning sits at a record 510 career TD passes, a record he will continue to add on to for as long as he plays.
The record-breaking 509th TD pass came with 3:09 remaining in the first half on an 8-yard pass to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.
When asked about the historical catch, Thomas said, “I thought before the play I might have a chance…I just wanted to make sure I got my feet down. I’m grateful for the chance.”
Manning, a player known for keeping his calm demeanor and his emotions in check, couldn’t help but give a big smile as he saw the official signal for touchdown pass number 509.
“I’ve discussed with some family and friends recently that [I] certainly didn’t think this would even be a possibility a couple of years ago,” Manning said on breaking the record.
His teammates shared in the moment by having a little fun themselves, playing a game of keep-away from Peyton with the record-breaking football.
Brett Favre was quick to happily congratulate Manning on breaking his record, as he jumped on Twitter to say, “Well deserved Peyton. Congratulations on breaking my record.”
Manning sits at 510, and will continue to add on to his record as his career continues. Something to think about, Manning reached Favre’s record 56 games before Favre did. Who knows what number that record will be at if Manning gets another 56 games in his career!
In typical Manning fashion, Peyton quickly walked to the bench to study the defense after throwing TD pass number 508. Congratulations Peyton!
