Little King: OD1

It may be hard to believe but, Little King has been around for quite sometime, having formed in November of 1996. OD1 is one of the latest band released by the trio. The EP is a nod to classic roc, livened up with melodic guitar riffs; with a sound similar to Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith, and many classic rock greats, the group seems to have missed the mark on this particular album.
They do not seem to have their own sound, instead it seems to be a replica of past artists. The 3 songs as a collective, definitely showcase how talented the band is instrumentally, but it lacks innovation, something that sets them apart. Though self-categorized as “melodic progressive rock” they sound more vintage than progressive. The band also lacks in the lyrical department, the lyrics lack passion, and even the wisdom of a band that’s been around for so long. Though rock lyrics, due tend to present this air of rebellion or escape, Little King falls a little short of portraying that. With all of this in mind, it may seem like “Little King” is not worth the listen; I think they are definitely worth a listen but need to dig deeper, I think they have so much more to attain and draw from themselves and their experience. As cliche as it sounds, there is only up from here.
