There will be another chapter added to one of the best rivalries in college lacrosse this Saturday as the Battle for North Charles is renewed. #6 Johns Hopkins will take on #8 Loyola University Maryland at 1 pm at Ridley Athletic Complex.
This is the 53rd meeting between two of the best programs in college lacrosse. This rivalry is typically an annual meeting however, the two teams did not square off last year due to scheduling conflicts and conference changes.
Both teams enter the game at a perfect 1-0, but they won in completely different fashions. Loyola routed the nations #7 ranked team last week, the Virginia Cavaliers by a score of 11-4. The Greyhounds were in control of the game from start to finish. Loyola got big games from senior Tyler Albrecht, junior Brian Sherlock, and stand out freshman Pat Spencer who captured his first 2 goals of his collegiate career. Loyola’s goaltender, Grant Limone had the best game of his young career making 14 saves and only giving up 4 goals.
On the other hand, Johns Hopkins defeated Patriot League foe Navy in double overtime in Annapolis. Sophomore attackman Shack Stanwick’s goal early in the second overtime was the difference in the ballgame. Hopkins got the win against Navy, but it was not very convincing which is why they fell in this week’s rankings.
Hopkins leads the all time series 47-5, but Loyola has won the last two contests. This is certainly shaping up to be an instant classic so make sure you pick up your ticket now because they are selling out quick! You certainly do not want to miss this game!
