For the first time in the history of Loyola University Maryland men’s soccer, head coach Steve Nichols has recruited a nationally ranked recruiting class. After a couple of disappointing losses to open the season, this young, reenergized team has come into it’s own and is taking the Patriot League by storm.
Ever since Loyola’s 2-1 victory over the University of Pittsburgh, this team cannot be stopped. The Hounds are perfect in Patriot League play with a 3-0 record and they have won four consecutive games overall.
Not only are the Greyhounds winning these games, but they are getting significant contributions from their freshman as well. Freshman forward Shane Kastl put away the Greyhounds only goal against American on Wednesday while fellow freshman Brian Saramago scored the decisive goal against Navy in overtime last Saturday.
With Wednesday’s win over American, Loyola leveled their record on the season at 5-5. The Greyhounds are by themselves in first place as they are the lone undefeated team remaining in Patriot League play. However, Colgate, Army, Lafayette, and American are 2-1 and only one game behind the Greyhounds.
This Loyola men’s soccer team is young, talented, and very fun to watch. Make sure you catch them in action against Boston University on Saturday, October 8th at 1 o’clock at the Ridley Athletic Complex as they look to remain on top of the Patriot League standings.
