TOP 40: 3/25

Bright Eyes’ The People’s Key remains at the top of our list, but we do have some newcomers in the psych folk Timbre Timbre, the surfy Hunx and his Punx, and the dreamy Joan as Police Woman. The top 5 remains stagnant, with the unmovable Cold War Kids, Decemberists, and company bolstering Oberst’s top spot; but keep an eye out for DOM, who may be moving into our top 5 very soon!

Theater Thursday: Cirque du Soleil

Totem, the latest edition of Cirque du Soleil to hit America, promises its audience “a fascinating journey into the evolution of mankind.” Never one to disappoint, Cirque du Soleil will be arriving in Baltimore on Thursday, April 7th with Totem debuting at the amazing venue Under the Grand Chapiteau at the Westport Waterfront. The show follows the fascinating journey of mankind from its original state all the way up to our fiery passion to fly. There is plenty of evolution involved, as characters morph to form a giant turtle, a symbol of origin for numerous ancient civilizations.

Lykke Li – Wounded Rhymes

Lykke Li’s back – and she’s not that cute girl-next-door anymore. The Swedish indie artist has returned with her follow-up to 2008’s infectious Youth Novels, the innovatively moody and sexy Wounded Rhymes. In her sophomore attempt, Li abandons the girl that everyone expected her to be. Gone is the girl who is telling you to “dance, dance, dance.” Gone is the girl who sings on top of light melodies. Li has grown up and out of the bubblegum world – and into a darker place.

Tourism Tuesday: Hampden and Golden West Cafe

If you have yet to investigate Hampden, trust me: you’re missing out. Situated conveniently close to Loyola, the funky enclave has a variety of fantastic thrift shops, tasty restaurants and eccentric shopping.

One lovely Hampden staple is Golden West Cafe. Home to a scrumptious menu and extensive bar, Golden has musical performances and comedy shenanigans throughout the week. Hampden is a happening place to spend the day, so check it out and stop into Golden West for some sustenance after the exploration.

Museum Monday: Sports Legends Museum

Some may find it horribly boring to watch, but it’s America’s favorite!

Baseball is classic, and Baltimore’s Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum and Sports Legends Museum takes tourists through the history of baseball and the prominence of sports in Baltimore. Iconic athlete Ruth is rooted in a Baltimore past and his childhood through accomplished life is on display in the museum.

Both in close proximity to charming Camden Yards, the museums display the rich cultural history of Baltimore sports teams and their famed athletes. Exhibits feature info on the Orioles, Colts, Ravens, Blast, Preakness and more. Feel the team pride and learn about your favorite athletes of past. Open from Tuesday through Sunday, they’re sporty and historical, perfect for any spring day!
