Tourism Tuesday: Historic Ship Tour

Shape up and ship out to the Inner Harbor for some serious Baltimore exploration. Not for the standard jaunt around the mall or Cheesecake Factory, but some Historic Ship action.

Four historic ships, a museum, and lighthouse add up to a fantastic Historic Ship tour. Visitors can tour the ships, explore the decks and check out one of the oldest Chesapeake lighthouses still standing.

Museum Monday: Jewish Museum of Maryland

Offering another perspective in the diverse city of Baltimore is the Jewish Museum of Maryland. Now through July the museum is displaying local artist Loring Cornish’s installation, “In Each Other’s Shoes.” The exhibit focuses on pertinent issues faced by the African-American and Jewish populations, current and past.

The museum features three galleries with different exhibits and offers a wealth of information on the rich historical and cultural experience of Jews in America. The museum provides visitors with an informative and enlightening look into Jewish culture and history.

Capitals Make a Push for the Playoffs

The Washington Capitals sit right behind the Tampa Bay Lightning as they hold the number two spot in the Southeast division of the Eastern Conference.  Newly acquired players such as Jason Arnott, Marco Sturm, and Dennis Wideman could be the key for the Capitals to finally make a trip to the Stanley Cup.  Arnott will add depth as he comes to the team with experience and size.  Arnott will gear up right away after the trade deadline had closed on Monday.  Jason Arnott was placed on the second line with Brooks Laich and Alexander Semin in his first game as a Capital on Tuesday evening against the New York Islanders.    The Capitals are 34-20 as they head into March and April for a few games before the playoffs start.

Sports Saturday: Charm City Roller Girls

It’s time for some mayhem. On March 26th the Charm City Roller Girls will be holding their first bout of the home season down at DuBurns Arena. The night will begin as the Night Terrors take on the Junkyard Dolls, immediately followed by a bout between the Charm City Roller Girls All Stars and the Detroit Derby Girls. These girls mean business, and they need our help as we root against the visitors from Michigan.

The All-New Baltimore Orioles

New manager Buck Showalter made moves in the off season to try and help the struggling Baltimore Orioles for the 2011 season.  The Orioles have been one of the worst teams in baseball since greats such as Cal Ripken Jr., Eddie Murray, Brady Anderson, and Roberto Alomar all moved on from the sport.  However, during the off season the team picked up three Major League Baseball sluggers.  First baseman Derrek Lee, outfielder Vladimir Guerrero, and shortstop J.J. Hardy  will join the Orioles and look to pick up the slack that has been lurking the Orioles over the past few seasons.
