2015-16 Loyola Basketball Season Preview

Sports Saturday The college basketball season is right around the corner and if there is going to be a year in which Loyola basketball wins the Patriot League, the 2015-16 season is definitely that year. This team has a perfect mixture of veteran leadership and young talent.

The Greyhounds have four seniors on the team and they are all expected to play pivotal roles this year. Loyola gets big man Jarred Jones back after playing in only two games last year due to injury. The men in green also return Franz Rassman who started every game last season, Eric Laster who was the team MVP last year, and Tyler Hubbard who is the only member of the team who was on the 2012 team that won the MAAC championship.

AFC East Preview

Sports Saturday After week 1, the AFC East is the only division in football in which all 4 of the teams in the division opened their season 1-0. In a division that features the defending Super Bowl champion, New England Patriots, the AFC East has the potential to be one of the best in football. The Bills, Dolphins, and Jets all made significant upgrades to their roster this offseason and all four teams could make a run at the postseason. Here is my AFC East preview for the 2015 season.

The Bills brought in the likes of LeSean McCoy, Percy Harvin, Charles Clay, and of course the always entertaining Rex Ryan to be their head coach. They also have a new quarterback under center, former Virginia Tech standout Tyrod Taylor. Taylor has been the Ravens back-up quarterback the past 4 seasons, but got his first NFL start on Sunday leading the Bills to a statement victory over the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 27-14.

When will the Dark Knight return?

Sports Saturday Coming off their most improbable win of the season on Tuesday night against the Nationals, the Mets are now faced with the question of when will Matt Harvey return?

Harvey’s agent, Scott Boras, wants Harvey to throw no more than 180 innings on the season. However, he has already thrown 171.2 innings.

After the Mets thrilling 8-7 come from behind victory, they now have a 6 game lead in the division with 24 games left to play. The Mets are looking to clinch their first playoff birth since 2006.

Sports Saturdays: How Amazin’ Are The Mets?

Sports SaturdayMeet the Mets!

Don’t look now, but the New York Mets seem to be back in their “Amazin'” form for the first time in ages.

As the Mets prepare to start the Subway Series against their Bronx rivals, the New York Yankees, they find themselves at the top of the MLB with a 13-3 record, while also riding the momentum of an 11-game win streak.

They’re finally in a position to take New York and all of the major leagues by storm, but just how Amazin’ are these Mets?

Just going by the numbers, you have to be impressed with this team. Their 11-game win streak is the longest they’ve been on since 1986, when they also started 2-3 before the streak started.

They also accomplished these win totals at the start of the season with a win streak in 1969.

The Mets won the World Series both of those years.

Sports Saturdays: UAB Win Means Victory Beyond the Court

Sports SaturdayThe University of Alabama at Birmingham shocked the sports world on Thursday when they topped 3-seed Iowa State, 60-59, providing the first major upset of the 2015 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

According to brackets submitted on ESPN.com, more people picked ISU to go all the way to the Final Four than picked them to lose to 14-seed UAB in the first game.

The major upset win speaks for itself, and obviously it was an emotional win for the UAB players.

“For us, it was just huge,” UAB junior Robert Brown said. “We come here, not just to play games, but to actually make some noise and to win some games. To be able to do that and win for Birmingham, win for Coach [Jerod] Haase, it’s a great feeling.”

Brown led all scorers in the upset win with 21 points.

However, the win means so much more for UAB than just advancing. For them, it was a deep feeling of achievement and euphoria that this program, its students and its fan base desperately needed.

Sports Saturdays: Dude, Where’s My Racecar?

Sports Saturday NASCAR just turned into an Ashton Kutcher comedy down in Morrow, Georgia as Team Xtreme Racing driver Travis Kvapil is left saying, “Dude, where’s my car?”

Kvapil’s No. 44 car was in a trailer in a hotel parking lot in Morrow, Georgia in preparation for this weekend’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. At 5:34am, the trailer, with the car and spare parts inside, was stolen.

Team Xtreme now finds themselves without a car for the race this weekend, and had to withdraw from the race Friday morning.

Kvapil reported the theft through Twitter while keeping a good sense of humor about him.

“Wow. Anyone near Atlanta find my stolen Cup car let me know! Unreal,” Kvapil first tweeted at 9:13am.
