Sports Saturdays: Farewell Captain

alg-jetera-jpgOnce in a generation, a player comes along and defines a great player and great leader for his or her sport, a player whom fans will remember and respect for years to come. For this generation, that player is Derek Jeter.

After 20 incredible seasons in pinstripes for the Yankees, the time has come for Jeter to bid a fond farewell to the fans of New York and the fans of baseball around the world, and boy did he do it in style!

In front of a sold-out crowd at Yankee Stadium, Jeter stepped up to the plate in a tie ball game in the bottom of the 9th with a runner on second and a chance to win the game for the Yanks.

Sports Saturdays: Orioles’ Davis Suspended

Tampa Bay Rays v Baltimore OriolesThe Orioles’ first baseman, Chris Davis, has been suspended 25 games by Major League Baseball after he tested positive for amphetamines.

Davis accepted his suspension immediately, saying, “I apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Orioles organization and especially the fans. I made a mistake by taking Adderall. I had permission to use it in the past, but do not have a therapeutic use exemption this year. I accept my punishment and will begin serving my suspension immediately.”

He’s Got To Go!

rice-480x320There are no more excuses the NFL can provide, no more apologies that can be made, and no more field time that can be pictured. Action needs to be taken against Ray Rice by the Baltimore Ravens and the NFL immediately.

There was already enough controversy over the fact that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Ravens’ Running Back Ray Rice a total of 2 games for domestic violence charges filed against Rice. The mistake made by Goodell in terms of his decision was magnified by the fact that he has been cracking down on players smoking marijuana, and taking that more seriously than a domestic violence case.

Now there can be no more questions as to whether or not Rice hit his then girlfriend, now wife, Janay Palmer. Thanks to TMZ Sports, the security video from within the elevator where the crime happened has now surfaced, and it is appalling.
