A New Sheriff In Town for Golf

Sports Talk“Well…I’m glad that wasn’t a dream.”

This was the tweet that 21-year-old Jordan Spieth sent out just hours after winning the 79th Masters. Actually, “winning” just doesn’t encapsulate exactly what Spieth did this weekend at Augusta National.

Spieth led wire-to-wire, set a new 36-hole scoring record for the most storied golf course in the United States, hit the most birdies in tournament history, and tied an all-time Masters scoring record. So, yeah, “winning” doesn’t quite cut it.

What he did win or earn was America’s attention.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the 21-year-old Spieth is finding success this early in his career. He’s got a near-flawless technique, he’s incredibly intelligent, he’s strong between the ears, and he has a respect for the game that extends far beyond his years.

Of course, comparisons are already being made to Tiger Woods, especially since Spieth is the youngest player to win the Masters since…well, Tiger in 1997.

The Birds Are Back In Town

Sports TalkGet ready to hear some “O’s” screamed during the National Anthem for the first time this season.

The birds are back in town this Friday as the Baltimore Orioles head back to Camden Yards for their 2015 home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.

For the first time in 17 years, the O’s head into a season as the defending AL East Champs. They finished last year’s regular season with a 96-66 record and made it all the way to the ALCS before being swept by the Kansas City Royals.

O’s fans will shake off the pain of how last season ended, and proudly welcome the birds back to Baltimore on Friday when Bud Norris will take the mound against Mark Buehrle.

A Final Four of Great Mentors

The stage is set. It’s next stop: Indianapolis for Kentucky, Wisconsin, Duke, and Michigan State.

While these may be the Final Four teams, the true Final Four consists of four men who have proven themselves to be experts of their coaching craft for years. These greats are John Calipari, Bo Ryan, Mike Krzyzewski, and Tom Izzo.

Four men that have ascended to the top of college basketball, all using completely different styles, and all taking very different paths to get to this year’s Final Four.

Like Iron Man in The Avengers, let’s do a headcount, shall we?
