Quarantine Takeover – High on Stress

This week’s Quarantine Takeover show comes from the great music city of Minneapolis and the band High on Stress! High on Stress formed in Minneapolis in the summer of 2003 and have released five studio albums. Their latest album, “Hold Me In”, was released in 2020 in the middle of a hundred year pandemic because they like to do things the hard way. “Hold Me In” was inspired by friends, Slim Dunlap & Tommy Keene and the great bands of Twin Tone Records. The twelve song collection showcases singer/songwriter Nick Leet’s continuing growth as a writer of clever, melodic pop songs. At the same time, this is certainly a rock record, forged in the crucible of sweaty live shows, hazardous driving conditions and lodging in the bad part of the bad part of town. While “Hold Me In” reflects the sharper edge of the band as a live act, the songwriting retains the charm and poignancy that marked its predecessors.

National Awards Finalist – Voices of COVID-19

This just in! Breaking News! Stop the presses! The amazing student production “Voices of COVID-19” has just been selected a finalist at the National Student Production Awards! This fantastic piece has made it through the (inter)national competition to be one of 4 finalists in the Best Special Broadcast category and we’ll find out October 30th at the awards ceremony who wins the top prize.

New Show! Hip Hop Revisited with Saleem

Come explore the history and world of Hip-Hop every week with local artist Saleem!

I could introduce him to you as Saleem the emcee, or I could introduce you to him as Saleem the producer. However I think the most apropos title would be Saleem, the dopest emcee on production! Starting out with an ASRX-PRO and a microphone, Saleem has been blazing his trail through hip-hop’s indie scene for several years. Performing with luminaries such as Common, The Roots, KRS-One, Rakim, and The Wu-Tang clan, to name a few, tends to hone and sharpen your skills. These experiences led him to craft his highly regarded debut album, which now lends its title to this new show, Hip-Hop Revisited. A bold title for a bold project that served as a welcome, and refreshing, introduction into the world of this multifaceted artist; or as one writer described him, “The embodiment of hip-hop’s evolution.”

Quarantine Takeover Show – 7th Order

This week’s Quarantine Takeover show comes from overseas again! This time from the magical land of Hawai’i! We welcome Daniel Jones of the band 7th Order recording his show on the side of Kilahuea in the town of Volcano. The show is a tribute to late guitarist Jesse Ed Davis, who played with the pantheon of great rockers in the 60s and 70s.

Their first recording sessions took place in December 2001 but 7th Order’s roots are much deeper. The band has, at various times, been joined by veteran British guitarist Martin Pugh (formally of the 60’s British band, Steamhammer, as well as Armageddon with The Yardbirds vocalist Keith Relf, and “The Rod Stewart Album” with Ron Wood & Keith Emerson), drummer Tim Kelliher (of Randy Hansen’s Machine Gun), and legendary American rock guitarist Geoff Thorpe (of Vicious Rumors). Reminiscent of blues-rock bands like The Rolling Stones & The Yardbirds, with progressive undertones ala Led Zeppelin, there’s something in there for all of you. Their most recent release (June 2020) is a track titled “Voyager”, a tribute to the late American guitarist, Ronnie Montrose – and is a benefit for the incredible Sweet Relief Musicians Fund.
