Roland Park Radio Plays

Since the Spring of 2011, WLOY has been working with students from Roland Park Middle School to record and produce radio plays created in their class. Their theater teacher, Karen Saar, works with them throughout the semester to create scripts for unique radio plays.  Once they have completed their scripts, the students come to WLOY and record their plays in our studios.  WLOY adds music and special effects to the plays and creates the final productions.  We air the finished shows during our weekend Old Tyme Radio show segment and provide CD copies of the plays for all the students involved.

In 2012, we teamed students in the audio production program at Kennedy Krieger High School with the RPMS students to create the sound effects for all the plays.

Students from the schools come and visit WLOY for a tour and discussion on radio, both on air and behind the scenes. They learn about the whole operation and then return to school to compete to be selected to record their radio plays at WLOY.
