The women’s track and field team have been quite busy and have had some great accomplishments thus far. Track and field may not be a sport that everyone will want to go and watch and really support; however, as any sports enthusiast can attest to, track and field is a sport that requires true determination and the upmost need for real athleticism. In recent weeks, the girls of the women’s track and field have been proving that they clearly have nothing but the strong will and determination of a real athlete.
This past Friday and Saturday February 4th and 5th the women’s track and field team broke school best records at the New Balance Invitational at The Armory Track and Field Center in New York. The team consisted of Emily Doucette (Junior Distance), Kristina Krupa (Junior Sprints), Jackie D’Antonio (Sophomore Distance), and Alyssa Doyle (Senior Distance). Together this team set a new school record in the Distance Medley with a time of 12:17.03. Before breaking, Loyola had set its previous school record in 2008 at the Bison Open with a time of 12:20.99. They finished 11th overall on friday with that time.
On individual matches, such as in the 3,000 Meters, Stephanie Gibney (Junior Distance) finished 13th with a time 10:29.02. Victoria Szczawinski (Freshman Distance) finished 20th with a time 10:40.95. When looking at the Mile matches, Marissa Galante (Freshman Distance) finished with a season best 5:13.63 at 34th overall. Emily Doucette finished 5:17.65 at 40th overall. Kiera Harrison (sophomore Distance) had a time of 5:20.42 finishing 43rd overall.
On Saturday February 12th, the women’s track and field team will be moving out to compete at UMES College Invitational in Princesse Anne. So if you find yourself around Princesse Anne or you ever get bored of looking at the Loyola Athletic’s website, try to support the team wherever you may find yourself on that beautiful day. Clearly, they are far superior to any homework that you won’t be doing till Sunday anyway.
