2019 Mayors Annual Christmas Parade
December 14th, 2019 by The Professor
In a sea of lame commercial radio it takes a great college radio station to lead the way! Yep, once again, the local radio stations served up the bland and WLOY showed up with the fun! Snoopy once again reigned from atop his doghouse and all his friends handed out nearly 3000 candy canes along the parade route! This year’s parade was great and we have a lot of photos and video to share.

Mayor’s Annual Christmas Parade 2019
November 29th, 2019 by The Professor
Its that time of year again! And WLOY is ready to go. We’ve pulled the old float down from its hibernation and are cleaning it up for another parade. We’ve got candy canes, we’ve got a float, and we’ve got costumes! We’re prepping Snoopy’s playlist and getting ready to march down Falls Road to 36th Street and all the way to Chestnut.
Along the route we’ll pass some judges who won’t give us a trophy again (but we’re not bitter, really) and we’ll make a lot of kids happy with Snoopy and candy canes. Don’t worry, we’re not in it for the glory, we love it! Go HERE for all the details – see you Sunday December 8!

Concert Review: The Menzingers at Delmar Hall (St. Louis)
November 18th, 2019 by WLOY Staff
I feel like at this point if you know anything about me, you know that my favorite band is The Menzingers. It seems like I am always wearing a Menzingers shirt, or talking about them for whatever reason. My story with The Menzingers is a long one, but I wouldn’t have discovered then without college radio.
I discovered The Menzingers during my first semester at Loyola and WLOY, and I slowly started loving them more and more. In October of 2015, I saw them on the tour they did with mewithoutYou, and the love was officially sealed. I had never seen a band with such raw energy – a sentiment that I still agree with today.
Many years, and 19 shows later, I accidentally ended up in the same city as the band. On Halloween, I was in St. Louis for a college radio conference, and The Menzingers were coming through as a part of their Hello Exile Tour. I’d like to call it the universe working in my favor because it really was a coincidence, but with how much I love the band, the people in my life tend to think otherwise. Not only did I get to see a Menzingers show for the 20th time, but I also had the chance to sit down with Tom for an interview before the show. You can check out the interview here. It was something I had been dreaming of for a very long time, and I am very grateful that it finally happened!
The Menzingers are currently on tour with Tigers Jaw (another band from Scranton!) and Culture Abuse.
