Sports Saturdays: How Amazin’ Are The Mets?

Sports SaturdayMeet the Mets!

Don’t look now, but the New York Mets seem to be back in their “Amazin'” form for the first time in ages.

As the Mets prepare to start the Subway Series against their Bronx rivals, the New York Yankees, they find themselves at the top of the MLB with a 13-3 record, while also riding the momentum of an 11-game win streak.

They’re finally in a position to take New York and all of the major leagues by storm, but just how Amazin’ are these Mets?

Just going by the numbers, you have to be impressed with this team. Their 11-game win streak is the longest they’ve been on since 1986, when they also started 2-3 before the streak started.

They also accomplished these win totals at the start of the season with a win streak in 1969.

The Mets won the World Series both of those years.

Women’s Lax Patriot League Semifinals

To describe the Loyola women’s lacrosse season in Patriot League play in one word, it would be: dominant.

The Hounds have been a perfect 8-0 for the second consecutive year in conference play. After squeaking by Virginia in overtime, the Greyhounds have rallied for eleven consecutive wins.

An experienced group leads the team. Senior Annie Thomas, redshirt senior Taryn VanThof, and junior Maddy Lesher won the Patriot League honors for offensive, midfield, and defensive player of the year respectively. All three of these ladies, plus Hannah Schmitt made the All-Patriot League First Team.

Senior Kara Burke, junior Molly Wolf, and sophomore Bailey Mathis also took home all conference honors as they were named to the Second Team All-Patriot League.

However, all of the hardware goes out the door come Friday at 5:00 p.m at Ridley Athletic Complex when the regular season champs take on the Boston Terriers.

Tebow Time in Philly!

Sports TalkPraise everything. Tim Tebow is returning to the NFL.

The city of brotherly love is getting a dose of Tebow Time next season, as the Eagles reached a 1-year contract agreement with the QB.

Chip Kelly’s crazy roster moves continue to make headlines and shock the world, but this one comes as a huge surprise, especially since they already traded for Sam Bradford (how that move is going to play out or be utilized further, I have no idea yet).

A plan for Tebow must be set in place if Kelly is going to contradict his previously vocalized thoughts on Tebow.

Oh. Do we not remember that? Back in 2011 when Kelly was still at Oregon, he had this to say on the former Florida Gators Heisman winner:

“I look for a quarterback who can run and not a running back who can throw,” Kelly said four years ago. “I want a quarterback who can beat you with his arm. We are not a Tim Tebow type of quarterback team. I am not going to run my quarterback 20 times on power runs.”
