What Are We Listening To This Week?

This super fun song, that’s a single track off their 2013 album IS, is the epitome of Hey Ocean!. The Vancouver based band is fun loving and they provide feel good music that just makes you want to dance. In January they released an animated video to accompany “If I Were A Ship” and it’s basically the most adorable an animated music video can get. Give them a listen, dance along and fall in love, like I have.

drunk-in-love-coverJordan Hernandez – Beyonce (ft. Jay-Z and Kanye West) – Drunk In Love Remix – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/drunk-in-love-feat.-jay-z/id780330041?i=780330308&uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]

As if this song wasn’t explicit enough, Beyonce allowed Kanye on the track. Audiences were shocked with Beyonce’s sexual lyrics when she first released the song on her self titled album and even more shocked when she performed it at the Grammy’s. But this is Beyonce we are talking about, only she could come and shock the world a third time. Top rapper and one of her biggest fans, Kanye West added a verse that up’ed the sexual level again. Critics are saying that it is an inside look at the sex life between West and his fiance Kim Kardashian. “If I do say so myself”, the remix is pretty hot!

Into funky 80s, indie-dance blends? This song will satisfy all of your modern “safety dance” meets indie dance party dreams. I recently discovered this song on spotify and have been sharing with friends since. Take a listen!

Sun-Kil-Moon-Benji-500x444Kathleen McKeveny – Sun Kil MoonBenji – [itunes link=”https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/bens-my-friend/id795192449?uo=4″ title=”Itunes”]

Benji is the sixth LP singer-songwriter, Mark Kozelek, has released under the moniker, Sun Kil Moon. It is also the best.
This album presents itself as a series of poems. It’s Kozelek’s uncanny ability to be both raw and vivid that defines his style. There is no sense that he fancies himself more empathetic, or poetic than the unfortunate characters of his songs. His words are decisively fluid and poignant as they meander about each song, start to finish.Benji offers its audience something new with each listen. I highly recommend this album. If that’s your thing, of course.
