The Royals defended their home turf in game 6 to force a game 7 in the World Series, thanks to a 10-0 rout of the Giants.
Kansas City never game San Francisco a chance in game 6, as they put 7 runs on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning, batting through the entire lineup.
Big World Series blowout wins aren’t new to the Royals. They won their only franchise championship in 1985 with an 11-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
The rookie pitcher for Kansas City, Yordano Ventura, came up big as he threw 7 shutout innings, allowing his offense to put the game completely out of reach by the time he came off the mound.
Oddly enough, every game in this World Series except for game 3 has been a blowout, with the average margin of victory in this series being 5.67 runs.
Now it all comes down to game 7, and luckily for the Royals, Madison Bumgarner will not be starting, but he will be available as a relief pitcher.
As it stands now, the pitching matchup will pit two veteran pitchers near the end of their careers against each other. Tim Hudson will take the mound for the Giants, and Jeremy Guthrie will start for the Royals. For both veteran pitchers, this opportunity has been a long time coming, as this World Series has been the first for these 39 and 35-year-olds.
World Series history is on the side of the Royals, though, as the home team has won 9-straight game 7’s.
This World Series has certainly delivered in terms of excitement and drama, and it will all be decided tonight. The first pitch for game 7 will be at 8:07pm.
